Potty Training 3 Weeks later

In order to have full transparency, I think it is important to check back in with the potty training issue.

Clark still has accidents.

For the past two weeks, it has been at least once a day. Church on Sunday was quite a treat. He was soaked right down into his shoes and socks in nursery. So I changed his clothes and 15 minutes later they brought him back to me. He had done it again! Then later that night on our walk, he stopped and looked concerned. Of course, I immediately thought he had an ant in his shoe (paranoid?) and as I was helping him locate said ant, he peed all over the sidewalk. I think once he has an accident, it throws him off and he can't get back on track.

But it is getting better. One thing I have noticed for Clark and it is probably true for most kids, is that when we were getting upset with him for having accidents (which usually isn't something that you can control or else you wouldn't get upset) he was doing worse. But when we just said, "Oh sad. You had an accident. Lets go and change your clothes" and the reminded him that he could still have a perfect day tomorrow and encourage him that way, he does better. I think that keeps it from being a control issue. Trust me, if it becomes about control, you will lose.

Since Sunday, though, not a single accident.

It just takes some time. That's all I'm trying to say. So for those of you who heard about "Potty Training in a Day" (like I did) I hope you don't get discouraged when it's "Potty Training in a Month".

It is important to remain objective. I agree that getting upset just makes your kid upset and that doesn't really help anyone. Hooray for Clark and his new found success!

Hey how old is Clark? My little Valerie has shown a lot of interest in going potty in the big girl potty, but I feel like she is too young to be potty training already and I don't dare to start the process.

Did he have an accident at my house? I don't remember one. I thought he did great!

This series has been most instructive and a good log of a learning experience. I just hope it will all be purged before Clark learns to read.
