Halloween Costumes

Two little monkeys, jumping on the bed. . .
One fell off and bonked his head!

Mama called the doctor and the doctor said,
"No more monkeys jumping on the bed!"

Who was the kid at the store with a monkey tail and a tube sock on his hand?

It was Clark.

I love that that kid is my kid.

Today I tried to will autumn to come to south Texas by wearing long pants and a long sleeved shirt. Just made me realize how hot it was even more forcefully.
I really wouldn't mind if there wasn't a mosquito/fireant/gnat attack every time I leave the house.

Which reminds me of this theory that I have long held about creation: I believe that part of our first lessons in the world of spirits was "Creation 101" and we were each involved in the design and creation of some of the things we have on earth. I'm pretty sure that the lion, gorilla and owl were all created by deity and I like to think that I had something to do with the daffodil. However, I think that most insects were created by the 1/3 that never planned to make it this far anyway. A precursory curse.

What do you think you helped design? (Posted by Jan, not Ben)

Clarky

Clark has been so much fun lately. He expresses himself very well, tells us when his ear hurts, he's hungry or "not tired". He is really sweet to Eva--tonight he played Ring Around the Rosies with her (did you know the Wiggles attempted to change this classic rhyme of morbidity to say "a tissue, a tissue, we all fall down!" Anyone else think that very presumptuous of them?)

We were making some bread today and he likes to help knead it, so I gave him a little bit and he made a "baby ball" out of it and talked to it in a lilting sing-song voice and then gave it the cutest little kiss a bread ball has ever received. He's good about being nice to babies.

1 friend over + 1 missed nap + 1 baby kitty to play with for the afternoon + tons of excitement = too tired for dinner.

The other day, Clark came in while I was getting ready in the morning to tell me that baby Eva's cereal was all gone. "Ate it!" When I went in to see how she could have possibly ate it so quickly, I discovered that she had not done it alone.

We love having Clarky in our family!

The health care reform debate

Being a medical student I hear a lot about the current health care reform debate. I think that this article hits it right on the head--essentially, it is our poor habits that is causing health care costs to rise (even though admittedly the system could be better). Take a read, you might have a different view on things.

Iwo Jima - a few pictures

There is a Battle of Iwo Jima museum here. The centerpiece is the original sculpture of the Battle of Iwo Jima that is in D.C. - the plaster that the bronze was cast from. It is huge.

The museum has some nice tanks and guns on display outside (no climbing on them though, Russians would have let us).

I am so grateful to live in this country. It is amazing how much we have, how free we are, and how much these servicemen have given us. It would break my heart to have to watch these two work in labor camps, or get bombed on the way to the store, or get kidnapped into some sort of forced militia. This happens so often in the third and second world--but we are so blessed to be here.

Thank you servicemen and women!
