Ben and I often have these conversations:
"I'm so glad we are renting for these reasons. . . "
"If we owned a house, we could do this and this. . . "
So here is this weeks' list of Pros and Cons of renting:
Pro #1: The AC has broken three times now. And we don't have to pay Phil the fix-it man to come and fix it. Nor do I have to wait around because the complex provides him with a key to my place.
Pro #2: We can trust the fix-it guys to be in our house because they all have contracts with the complex and they would lose tons of money if we found out that they stole anything.
Pro #3: We have lots of neighbors to be friends with. And the little neighbor girls helped me look for a missing bolt yesterday in the lawn. We didn't find it, but I had some help looking.
Con #1: silverfish. I assume they are from the neighbors. . . they are sharing with us. We don't have a major infestation, but they are unwelcome in any quantity.
Con #2: Other bugs/pests that sneak in through cracks and crevices: a gecko, a couple of 3" long (or longer) flying cockroaches, a huge grasshopper. Heaven help me if a snake finds its way in.
The Pros have it. we'll stay put.

At first I thought you meant your neighbors were sharing exotic seafood, and then maybe that small pest fish were swimming in your drains. So I did a little research, and instantly regretted it.

I hate closeups of nasty bugs on human skin.
Jethro and I often have the same conversation. We LOVE our new place so the pros are big, and the cons, well, pretty much a 1500$ monthly mortgage payment is keeping us nice and cozy in our rental home. Luckily the only thing our downstairs neighbor shares with us is a weird odor, and an occasional afternoon of listening to her rock out to def leopard.
The wheels never stop turning!!!
Con #3: Beetle is thousands of miles away. . . you forgot, but it's okay.
3" long cockroaches? That is the beauty of renting. I have never seen as weird of bugs as I have seen here...GROSS!!!
Silver fish live in houses just like they live in apartments, other bugs/pests as well. There is probably a lower chance of finding a snake in a 2nd story apartment than a house too. So many pros, so few cons...
I think that fact that you're still having this discussion shows that you're still not quite convinced about renting ... LOL
we are. we just like to rub it in.
Here's another Pro to renting, kinda, well it's not a con. You still get bugs in a home and I hate it. A Perfect world for me would not to have to worry at all about bugs and especially spiders, which I have killed more of here in Texas than I have in my 24 years of life before I moved to Texas...yuck!
